House Bill 1085, if enacted as currently written, would allow municipalities in Georgia to pass an ordinance authorizing Instant Runoff Voting in their elections. The ordinance must be enacted at least 180 days prior to the election in which IRV is to be used. The Secretary of State or the State Election Board would be responsible for establishing rules for the implementation of Instant Runoff Voting in the municipalities. If enacted, HB 1085 would become effective on January 1, 2023.
