Georgia State Senators introduced a bill last week to ban the use of RCV in elections. The kicker is: RCV is already banned in Georgia. Well, that's not quite right. Georgia Republicans implemented RCV in small way back in 2021 to be used for military and overseas voters. This allowed the state to shorten runoff elections from 9 weeks to 4 weeks needing only to mail one ballot abroad instead of two. It was a great win for more efficient elections in Georgia.

Now, Senators are introducing a new bill that would ban the use of RCV, which is already banned, except it can still be used for military and overseas ballots. If you're having a hard time following the logic, that's because the bill accomplishes nothing. Literally nothing. The legality of RCV will not change. Nonetheless, they will advance this bill instead of focusing on more important matters or focusing on Governor Kemp's agenda.

In an era when the public is greatly concerned about government efficiency, it's embarrassing to see the Georgia General Assembly acting like do-nothing paper pushers.
